Terms & Conditions

Here is a copy of my current terms for driving lessons. You will be required to sign a copy of these upon booking.

1. NEW COVID-19 PROTOCOLS

While COVID-19 is still present within the United Kingdom, additional Terms have been added to this document. These are all included in red.

You must also read and agree to the COVID safety measures outlined here

2. LEGAL REQUIREMENTS FOR DRIVING

In order to proceed with driving lessons, you must:

  • Be aged 17 or over (16 if disabled).

  • Hold a driving licence that is valid for the UK (provisional, full or appropriate foreign).

  • Present your licence to Ian before the first lesson for checking. (You must also supply a licence check code. You can do this here: https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence).

It is your responsibility to provide proof of a valid driving licence. Your first lesson will not begin without it, and you may still be charged.

  • Prove adequate eyesight for safe driving. (You must be able to read an old-style number plate from a minimum distance of 20.5 metres or a new-style number plate from 20 metres. I will conduct this visual check before your first lesson).

3. RISK OF ILLNESS

To reduce the risks of exposure to COVID, all lessons will be a minimum of 2 hours. I cannot offer lessons for less than 2 hours at a time.

You must accept that IDL cannot be held liable in the event that you become unwell or suspect that you have contracted COVID as a result of a driving lesson. IDL cannot be held liable for any impact to your health, including any financial loss caused as a result.

While IDL will strictly uphold the measures outlined in the document COVID Protocols for Student and Teacher, you must accept that:

  • No work or learning environment can be made 100% risk free from COVID;

  • Protocols put in place to manage risk are a ‘best effort endeavour’ based upon the relevant guidelines;

  • You take driving lessons at your own risk in relation to COVID.

4. BOOKING YOUR DRIVING TEST

Driving tests are non-refundable, so please ask me before booking your driving test as I may not be available to be there with you! This is especially important if you wish to use my car for your test.

5. PASSING YOUR TEST

While I take responsibility for teaching you to the best of my ability, and make passing your Driving Test the main goal and mission of our lessons, IDL cannot guarantee that you will pass your Driving Test and cannot be held for accountable for any failures to pass.

In order to take your Driving Test, you must first pass the DVSA Theory Test. While I will incorporate driving theory into your lessons and give guidance where necessary, my primary role as your instructor is to deliver practical driving lessons.

It is your responsibility to source the necessary resources, to study for, and to pass your Theory Test.

6. PAYING FOR LESSONS

For Pay as You Go lessons, payment must be made within the lesson. For discounted block bookings, payment must be received in entirety before your first lesson.

You can pay for lessons in the following ways:

  • Cash within your lesson.

  • Card payment* within your lesson.

  • Bank transfer or PayPal*.

*For card payments and PayPal you may be charged be a small additional administrative fee.

7. CANCELLATION POLICY

You must give at least 48 hours’ notice if you wish to re-arrange or cancel a booked driving lesson. Failure to do so could result in you being charged for the lesson.

IDL reserves the right to postpone, without notice, any lesson on suspicion that either you or I may be displaying COVID symptoms. Refunds will not be given in such circumstances, but the lesson will be rescheduled for once health has been assured.

Customers can postpone a lesson at short notice, without penalty, on the grounds of having to isolate due to contracting or having symptoms of COVID. If the lesson has been paid for in advance, no refund will be offered but the lesson will be rescheduled for once health has been assured.

8. IN THE EVENT OF A BREAKDOWN

Whilst I always maintain the car to the highest of standards, mechanical breakdowns can occur. I am a sole trader and run just one car. Consequently, should a breakdown occur which means a driving lesson cannot go ahead, any pre-paid fees will be transferred to your next lesson.

If a breakdown occurs which prevents you from taking a pre-paid driving test, I would pay the costs for re-booking this test.

Please note, I will only pay for the cost of the driving test, not any additional expenses that may have occurred.

9. INTRODUCTORY OFFERS

Any introductory offers will only be available to new customers.

10. LIABILITY

IDL will not be liable to you for any loss or damage caused where:

  • There is no breach of a legal duty owed to you by IDL; or any loss or damage is not a reasonably foreseeable result of such a breach of legal duty.

  • Loss or damage has occurred as a result of any breach or omission from you.

  • Loss or damage has occurred due to circumstances or matters outside of reasonable control by IDL.

  • IDL will not, in any event, be liable for losses relating to any business interests you may have including loss of profits, loss of business or business interruption.
